Verse
    E A
An old man gazed at a photograph
      B E
In a locket he'd worn for years,
E A
His nephew then asked him the reason
          F#m B
why that picture had caused him tears,
       B
“Come listen,” he said,
           E
“and I'll tell you, lad,
   A B
a story that's strange but true:
      E A F#m
Your father and I at the school one day
     E B E
met two little girls in blue.”

Chorus
E A E
“Two little girls in blue, lad,
E A
two little girls in blue.
B E
They were sisters, we were brothers,
    F#m B
and learned to love them true.
E
One little girl in blue, lad,
    A F#m
Who won your father's heart,
  B
Became your mother,
    E A
I married the other and
E B E
now we have drifted apart.”

Verse
E A
“That picture is one of those girls, he said;
   B E
To me she was once a wife.
   E
I thought her unfaithful,
         A
and we quarreled, lad,
      F#m B
Then parted that night for life.
   B E
A fancy of jealousy wronged a heart,
  F#m B
A heart that was good and true.
    E A F#m
No better girls ever lived than they,
E B E
Those two little girls in blue."

Chorus
E A E
“Two little girls in blue, lad,
E A
two little girls in blue.
B E
They were sisters, we were brothers,
    F#m B
and learned to love them true.
E
One little girl in blue, lad,
    A F#m
Who won your father's heart,
  B
Became your mother,
    E A
I married the other and
E B E
now we have drifted apart.”
