Verse 1
    Am
The sheep's in the meadow, the cow's in the corn,
C Em Am
Now is the time for a child to be born.
      Am C
He'll cry for the moon, he'll laugh at the sun,
Em Am
If he's a boy he'll carry a gun,
         Bm Am
Sang the crow on the cradle.

Verse 2
Am
If it should be that our baby's a girl,
C Em Am
Never you mind if her hair doesn't curl.
Am C
Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes,
      Em Am
And a bomber above her wherever she goes,
         Bm Am
Sang the crow on the cradle.

Verse 3
Am
Rock-a-bye baby, the dark and the light,
C Em Am
Somebody's baby is born for a fight.
Am C
Rock-a-bye baby, the white and the black,
Em Am
Somebody's baby is not coming back,
         Bm Am
Sang the crow on the cradle.

Verse 4
     Am
Your mama and papa, they'll scrimp and they'll save,
C Em Am
Build you a coffin and dig you a grave.
Am C
Hush-a-bye, little one, why do you weep?
Em Am
We've got a toy that will put you to sleep,
         Bm Am
Sang the crow on the cradle.

Verse 5
Am
Bring me a gun and I'll shoot that bird dead,
C Em Am
That's what your mama and papa once said.
Am C
Crow on the cradle, oh, what shall I do?
Em Am
That is a thing that I'll leave up to you,
         Bm Am
Sang the crow on the cradle.
