A Friday In The Life Of Richard And Betty

Intro

A Amaj7 Dadd9

Verse 1

A Amaj7
It’s 7.15, and Richard and
Dadd9
Betty are waking up soon
A Amaj7
The dog’s on the bed, the paper unread,
Dadd9
the sun fades the moon
B7 D
no one is waiting
B7 D
or tapping their foot
F#m Esus4 Dadd9
Richard and Betty are sleeping
              E A
And the world doesn’t look

A Amaj7 Dadd9
It’s Friday, they both strip the bed, laundry day of the week
A Amaj7 Dadd9
taking it slow, the wind softly blows through the sweet-smelling sheets

Pre-Chorus

B7 D
No one is waiting
B7 D
Rich takes her hand
F#m Esus4 Dadd9
He spins Betty carefully
            E A
the slowest slow dance

And he says

Chorus

A G
I think we hacked it
         D
Maybe we cracked it
                                    A
No there’s nowhere that I’d rather be
             G
My wife is a beauty
             D
My life is a doozy

I’ve been smiling since ‘73
A
thank god
G
We said
D
Goodbye to the city
A G D
You’ll never take me there alive
A
One car
G
No phone
D
might not be as pretty
                      G A
But what else would I need when you're by my side

A Amaj7 Dadd9

Verse 2

A Amaj7 Dadd9
They go to the diner, and Betty picks salad to leave room for pie
A Amaj7
Her face lights up as she chews
                      Dadd9
and there’s no better view for Richard tonight

Pre-Chorus

B7 D
No one is waiting
B7 D
the pie is so sweet
    F#m Esus4 Dadd9 D E A
The kids left ten years ago, and Diner Day is the best day of the week

Betty says

Chorus

A G
I think we hacked it
         D
Maybe we cracked it
                                    A
No there’s nowhere that I’d rather be
             G
I still feel it all
             D
Since we kissed in the fall

After dancing in ‘73
A
Thank god
G
We said
D
Goodbye to the city
A G D
You’ll never take me there alive
A
One car
G
No phone
D
might not be as pretty
                    G E
but my god it feels good with just you by my side

Bridge

E D
Make a home in nowhere
(Thank god we said goodbye to the city)
E D
Make a home with me
(I still feel it all since we kissed in the fall)
E D
Make a home in nowhere
(one car, no phone, might not be as pretty)
E D
Make a home with me
                (Thank god we said goodbye)

Outro

A Amaj7 Dadd9

A Amaj7
Richard and Betty turn out the light
Dadd9
The day is now done
A Amaj7
Holding hands as they sleep
                  Dadd9
They both end the week

Ready for another one
